YouTube temporarily faces global blackout

Earlier today, Google’s video streaming service YouTube suffered a seemingly global outage that prevented videos from loading for about two hours. At approximately 5:30 am, more than 280,000 users reported to the fall detector that the service was not working.

YouTube then confirmed this news via its Twitter account.

The problem affected users around the world, but the first reports started pouring in from the United States and Nigeria. Apart from that, the outage also affected other services that use YouTube’s infrastructure, including YouTube TV, as well as the purchase of movies and TV shows through Google TV.

Initially, the website loaded correctly, but the videos continuously showed the loading wheel. After a while, users started getting error messages when trying to read something on YouTube’s website and its mobile app.

According to The Verge, the service became active again at 7 a.m. However, in some cases they received an error message on the YouTube mobile app.

Almost two hours after the official announcement of the disruption, the company, via its Twitter account, announced that the service was back on line and apologized for the inconvenience caused.
