Xiaomi is now the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer, neck and neck with Samsung

All other Chinese smartphone brands have benefited from Huawei’s international meltdown (except Honor) but none more so than Xiaomi, and today’s news confirms that fact.

According to Canalys, Xiaomi will become the world’s second-largest smartphone manufacturer in terms of sales in the second quarter of 2021.
As you can see, Samsung is still number 1 with a 19% market share. Even though Xiaomi is currently sitting right on the neck with a 17% discount.

The company shipments have increased by more than 300% in Latin America, 150% in Africa, and 50% in Western Europe. However, the average retail price is still 40% lower than Samsung and 75% lower than Apple. Even though the company has recently released more premium (read: more expensive) devices and seems to be hoping to increase that number in the future.

The objective of Xiaomi should be to raise sales from its finest phones, such as the Mi 11 Ultra, according to Canalys. This can be a difficulty, though, as Oppo and Vivo share virtually the same objectives. And it looks willing to do more for traditional marketing, unlike Xiaomi.

If growth continues, Xiaomi could overtake Samsung and become the best smartphone vendor in the world from time to time. Apple is currently at 14%, while Oppo and Vivo have 10% each with strong growth. Although this is nothing compared to Xiaomi’s 83% in Q2 2020.
