WAPDA awarded a $241 million contract for Tarbela 5th Ext. HPP E&M works

The Pakistan Authority for Water and Energy Development (WAPDA) won an electromechanical (E&M) order worth 241.1 million -HEMC via an international tender. The signing ceremony took place today at the WAPDA Building in Lahore.

The E&M contract was signed, on behalf of their organization, by Muhammad Azam Joya, the 5th Hydroelectric (PD) expansion director, and Zhang Yulong, HEIC-HEMC Vice President.

WAPDA President Lieutenant General Muzammil Hussein (retired), WAPDA Finance Member Naveed Asghar, Water Member Abdul Zahir Khan Durrani, Managing Director (Administration) Khalid Saleem, WAPDA Secretary Fakharuzzaman Ali Cheema, interested managing directors, and representatives from consultants attended the ceremony.

It is worth mentioning that WAPDA awarded the construction contract for the project in May.

On that occasion, the President said that Tarbela 5th Extension is one of WAPDA’s projects to meet the country’s energy needs with cheap and environmentally friendly electricity, adding that WAPDA has committed to complete this important project on time.

Regarding WAPDA’s strategy to improve water status and increase the proportion of hail in the national grid, he said that WAPDA is building 10 mega projects in the hydropower sector to meet the rapidly growing demand for water and electricity in the country.
