Asad Umar: Vaccination to people above 60 start from March 10

Vaccination to people over 60 will start on Wednesday, March 10, the head of the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) Asad Umar said on Sunday. Adding that further details of the process would be released tomorrow.

In a tweet, the federal minister said vaccinations would be given in reverse age order. “The vaccination to people over 60 will be starting from Wednesday the 10th of March.”

“Vaccinations will be done in reverse order by age. This means the oldest person who has registered will be vaccinated first. Full details will be issued tomorrow,” the minister said in the tweet.

Coronavirus situation in Pakistan

According to daily statistics released on Sunday by the Punjab Health Ministry, the province has recorded more than 1,000 cases in a single day since July. Provincial confirmed data reached 177,008 with new cases.

On the other hand, the total confirmed cases in Pakistan reached 590,508. After a total of 1,780 cases were registered nationwide.

With an additional 39 deaths, the country’s death toll now stands at 13,205.

According to the official government portal, Covid-19, new cases have been reported against a total of 38,887 tests carried out in one day.

So far, the country has recorded 559,248 recoveries, 1,038 of which occurred as of Saturday.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Health urged the public to strictly comply with the Covid-19 Standard Operating Guidelines to fight the disease effectively.

Covid-19 is a deadly virus, but we can control it as we controlled it by following the SoP during the first wave. The government wants your full support in complying with the SoP,” an official said.

“We can save precious lives, including those we love, by taking preventive action. Wear a mask, keep your distance, wash your hands frequently with soap and avoid crowded places,” he added.

“Celebrate the wedding, but please limit meetings and take all precautions by following the SoP. We are a strong nation and we can beat the coronavirus. But the cooperation of all these citizens is very important.”

With more than 590,508 confirmed cases in the country, the government is again taking strong measures to contain the spread of coronavirus infection in the country.
