US agrees to Masood Khan as Pakistani ambassador in Washington

The US administration has approved the appointment of Sardar Masood Khan as Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington.

Masood will now be able to replace existing Pakistani Ambassador Asad Majeed Khan, thanks to the State Department’s approval. The agreement is a diplomatic agreement that allows members of a country’s diplomatic mission to be welcomed and assisted.

The Foreign Office issued an agreement for Masood Khan in November after Prime Minister Imran Khan nominated him as ambassador to the United States.

While the US State Department generally takes a few weeks to execute an agreement, concerns were raised after the delay in issuance of the documents went on and the State Department gave no indication of its conclusion.

On the same day, US Congressman Scot Perry wrote a letter to President Joe Biden, which was then leaked to a select group of Indian journalists. It was a scathing letter directed against Masood, which was picked up by the Indian press, which reported that Washington had vetoed the nomination.

Islamabad, on the other hand, was satisfied with the typical bureaucratic process. The Foreign Office official denied that Indian media claims that the procedure was being blocked by Washington were true.

Who is Masood Khan:

“Ambassador Masood Khan is an experienced diplomat with more than 40 years of experience in international and bilateral diplomacy. The official stated, “His agreement is being handled in the US system.”

He is a career envoy who has worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in various roles since 1980, prior to his appointment as president of the AJK.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appointed Masood Khan as the 27th President of Azad Kashmir in 2016. Following the AJK elections in August 2021, he was lost by PTI’s Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhary.

Masood, a prominent and staunch supporter of Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan, successfully emphasized the oppressed Kashmiris’ sufferings, emphasizing the need for an effective approach to halting the never-ending holocaust.

From August 2003 to March 2005, the Sardar Masood Khan was the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, from 2005 to 2008, before serving as Pakistan’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland.

Between September 2008 to September 2012, he served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, and between October 11, 2012, and February 7, 2015, he served as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.
