UN Security Council called emergency meeting to discuss crisis in Afghanistan

The UN Security Council is holding an emergency meeting on Friday to discuss rising violence in Afghanistan. It has unfolded by a senior diplomat.

The meeting has convened after Afghan Foreign Minister spoke with Indian Foreign Minister following Taliban attacks on major cities. Moreover, Taliban attacks on Defense Minister’s residence in Kabul.

During the talks, the Afghan Foreign Minister said to have requested a special meeting of the UN Security Council on current crisis.

India is currently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. It will head the ruling body in August.

Members of the UN Security Council will get briefing during the meeting by Foreign Minister and the UN Assistance Mission to the head of Afghanistan.
