Twitter has been fined $ 42,000 by a Russian court after being found guilty of failing to remove illegal content in Russia. In court, Russian prosecutors said Twitter allowed the publication of content ranging from substance abuse to child pornography, which is banned in Russia.
As a first step last month, Moscow slowed down Twitter’s internet speeds while operating in Russia. On March 16, Russia gave Twitter one month to remove banned content from its Russian-language platform.

Although no comments have been received from Twitter since the court’s ruling, Twitter has historically denied that its submissions were used to post content that is prohibited in Russia.
