Tornado killed Amazon driver in warehouse

Austin J. McEwen was one of six killed in an Amazon warehouse tornado in Illinois. Brian Erdmann told Reuters McEwen was in the bathroom at the time. Erdmann believes he only lived because he was out delivering. A tornado devastated Illinois and killed an Amazon driver, a coworker said.

Tornado killed Amazon driver Austin J. McEwen, 26, Friday night when a wall and roof collapsed, trapping colleagues within. “We were friends and he didn’t make it,” Brian Erdmann said of his pal. Erdmann said he was on his way to the warehouse to deliver a package when the tornado hit.

After the accident, Amazon employees protested about the company’s cellphone prohibition. Tornadoes wreaked havoc in Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri Kentucky has hit worst. Gov. Andy Beshear indicated Sunday that the death toll could reach 100.

“We’re still expecting for some miracles to find more folks,” he said.
