This year saw record wheat and rice output says Fakhar Imam

The National Minister for Food Security and Research, Syed Fakhar Imam, said that record production of wheat, rice and corn was observed this year.

At a press conference in Islamabad on Saturday, he said wheat production had increased by 27.3 million tonnes, two million tonnes more than last year.

The minister said this was due to various government initiatives. He said certified seeds were used, which contributed to record wheat production. Syed Fakhar Imam said that increasing wheat production would benefit farmers, commoners and the land.

He said rice production was still 8.41 million tons. He said there were 11% of rice exports. According to Fakhar Imam, there is an increasing trend in mango, orange and potato exports due to government policies that benefit farmers.
