The ruling Vatican office responsible for defending church doctrine, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), answers the question: “Does the Church have the power to bless same-sex unity?”
“Negative,” said the CDF’s reply, which was signed by Cardinal Luis Ladaria, head of the Teaching Service for the Treatment of Heresy, which was first founded in 1542.
Blessings are not allowed, writes the CDF, because what needs to be blessed must be “commanded objectively and positively to receive and express grace according to God’s plan, written in the creation and fully expressed by Christ the Lord”.

Therefore, it is not permissible to bless a relationship or fellowship, even a stable one, which involves sexual activity outside of marriage (that is, outside of the inseparable union of man and woman, which is itself open to life transmission). as is the case with same-sex unions, “he said.
The CDF writes that such relationships may have positive elements to evaluate, but this does not make them “valid objects of ecclesiastical blessings, for positive elements, exist in the context of associations not directed by the Creator’s plan”.
The ministry writes as long as God “does not stop blessing every child he worships in this world … he does not bless and cannot bless sin”.
