Turkey said it wouldn’t participate in the combat mission there after the United States and NATO troops have withdrawn, and will remain confined to security in Kabul Airport, Daily Sabah said Friday by quoting security sources.
Their military would only continue to take care of the security of Kabul Airport.
It is important to remember that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who had requested the evacuation of other NATO soldiers in June, offered a mission to guard and operate Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International airport.
While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic requested a ‘fair burden share,’ Taliban opposed the suggestion that Turkey should likewise withdraw forces according to the 2020 Pull Out Agreement.
