The royal palace hosted King Charles’s first state banquet

During his official visit, King Charles III cooked a delicious meal for South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. The meal included grilled brill and stuffed Windsor pheasant.

Ramaphosa, whose visit was in the planning stages before the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, was an honoured guest at a state banquet held at Buckingham Palace by the King, Queen Consort, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and other members of the Royal Family. The banquet was held in memory of Queen Elizabeth II.

The new ruler presented a sumptuous feast consisting of two main courses: grilled brill with wild mushrooms, truffles, and sorrel sauce; or ballotine of Windsor pheasant packed with artichokes, quince compote, and port sauce. Both dishes were served with a sorrel sauce.

A variety of Chantenay carrots, kale with roasted butternut squash, fondant potatoes, and salad were served as sides. A variety of salad greens were also included.

For dessert, guests may choose between an iced vanilla parfait topped with caramelised apples or a cup of coffee accompanied with bite-sized candies.

On Monday, the new monarch stunned admirers by giving them an unprecedented view into the kitchens of Buckingham Palace, where chefs had made the national flower of South Africa, the protea, out of sugar and edible colouring in preparation for the State Banquet.

On Tuesday, the ceremonial welcome was attended by South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, as well as King Charles, Princess Camilla, Prince William, and Catherine.
