The PIA plane flies to Manchester with only one passenger

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) set a new record for international flights with only one passenger on Sunday.

The flight from Islamabad to Manchester on an aircraft with a capacity of 371 people started with only one passenger other than the crew and changed the flight to charter for passengers from Gujrat.
The news of the near-empty flight came as PIA lowered resuscitation costs. The Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) was introduced last month, benefiting its 2,000 employees.

An airline spokesman said downsizing was essential for PIA to fulfill its business plans.
“The response has been very encouraging and we have reduced our regular workforce by nearly 20 percent,” he said.

The spokesman added that PIA will save around Rs. 2.5 billion before retries and the return on investment will be two years from now.
