The Lahore Supreme Court (LHC) overturned its registry office’s objection to a petition calling for the ban on several social media applications, including TikTok, Bigo Live and Likee.
The petition filed by Waqas lawyer Anwar Gujjar and acknowledged by Judge Abid Aziz Sheikh said that social media apps such as TikTok, Bigo Live and Likee are just wasting young people’s time and that TikTok not only promotes lewd content, but also sheds light on people’s lives.
The Telecommunications Authority of Pakistan (PTA), the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other relevant authorities were identified as respondents in this case.
The petition stated that “no action was taken despite being notified of the matter to the relevant authorities, including the PTA”.
Gujar’s lawyer asked the court to ban the request and instructed the authorities to draft a law to control it.
