On Friday, a provincial review board denied the government’s request for an extension in the imprisonment of Hafiz Saad Hussain Rizvi, the leader of the proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
The three members of the Executive Board shall be Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, Justice Aalia Neelum and Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan.
After his 90-day imprisonment time expired, Hafiz Saad Hussain Rizvi was brought before the board at the Lahore High Court (LHC).
During the in-camera hearings, government officials helped the board and asked that the TLP chief’s imprisonment be extended.
A request for an extension in the imprisonment of Rizvi’s party activists Usman and Wazir Ali was also denied by the board.
During the board deliberations, a considerable number of police officers were stationed at the LHC and in the adjacent regions.
Following the hearing, Rizvi’s lawyer, Burhan Moazzam, stated that the review procedure still has a few days left. He stated that a decision on whether or not to submit bail applications in additional cases will be made at a later date.
