Tesla recalled over 475,000 vehicles in the United States — roughly the same number of vehicles delivered worldwide last year — due to technical faults that may raise the chance of an accident. According to the Document in US Safety regulator, Tesla recalls 475,000 cars in United States over some technical issues. The firm intends to recall all Model 3 vehicles manufactured between 2017 and 2020 – a total of up to 356,309 vehicles in total.
In addition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been notified that opening and shutting the trunk might damage the wire harness for the rear-view camera, which would prohibit the picture from being shown.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced Thursday that Tesla is recalling up to 119,009 Model S vehicles built from 2014 due to a faulty front-trunk latch that could cause the hood to open unexpectedly. The recall was announced in a separate statement posted on the NHTSA’s website.
The firm has said that it would correct both concerns at no cost. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Tesla has identified 2,305 warranty claims that may be tied to any of the two issues; however, the carmaker is not aware of any associated incidents, injuries, or fatalities.
While the scale of the Tesla recall is extensive, recalls of this nature are becoming increasingly common in the automobile industry. According to Chicago-based consulting company Stout, recalls in 2020 would encompass more than 300 auto models and will affect about 28 million vehicles, excluding Takata airbag-related recalls. More controversial concerns concerning regulatory inspection of the electric carmaker’s technology do not appear to be at the root of the company’s recalls, according to the company.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said earlier this month that it is investigating a new software upgrade by Tesla that allows drivers to play video games on a dashboard screen while the car is in motion.
