On Wednesday, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin announced a direct cash subsidy on sugar, wheat, ghee, and pulses, which will benefit 12.50 million people in Pakistan, according to the ministry.
When asked about the government’s plans to provide direct cash subsidies to the marginalized segments of the society on sugar, flour, ghee, and pulses during a press conference in Islamabad with other PM’s aides Farrukh Habib and Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, the finance minister stated that the government is taking steps to provide such subsidies.
His statement read: “This initiative, which will be implemented next month, will help 12.50 million homes, which accounts for up to 42 percent of the total population.” Wheat is being issued at a rate of Rs1950 per 40 kilograms, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. The price of sugar has been set at Rs89.75 per kilogram of the commodity.”
He went on to say that the government has also agreed to provide tax relief to enterprises in order to bring down the price of edible oil by around fifty rupees per kilogram, which will help to lower the cost of living.

According to Shaukat Tarin, efforts are also being made to eliminate the large profit margins enjoyed by middlemen. It is his belief that they are working hard to resurrect pricing control committees that will benefit the general public.
He stated that the Kamyab Pakistan Program, which would be launched by the end of this month to help the weaker parts of society, will be launched by the end of this month. In his words, this scheme will make it simple to obtain loans for enterprises and those in the agricultural sector.
