Sialkot lynching: Sri Lankan PM wants to Punish the Culprit

Following the horrible murder of a Sri Lankan man in Sialkot on Friday, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa expressed confidence that his Pakistani counterpart will follow through on his promise to bring the perpetrators of the atrocity to justice on Saturday.

Priyantha Kumara, a Sri Lankan plant manager, was beaten to death and then set ablaze by a mob in Sialkot on Friday after being accused of blasphemy.

Prime Minister Imran Khan described the incident as “a horrible vigilante attack” and stated that he would personally oversee a probe. He also described it as “a day of disgrace for Pakistan.”

Priyantha Diyawadana was brutally murdered by fanatical crowds in Pakistan, and the attack was shocking to witness.” “My heart goes out to his wife and family,” Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said in a statement posted on Twitter.

“Sri Lanka and its people are sure that Prime Minister Imran Khan will follow through on his vow to bring all those implicated to justice,” Rajapaksa added.

Kumara was beaten by a mob in several video clips that were circulated on social media. A number of other videos showed his body being set ablaze, as well as the overturned wreckage of what appeared to be his vehicle.

Many members of the mob made no attempt to conceal their identities, and some even took photos in front of the charred body of the victim.

Pakistanis were appalled by the occurrence, which was also described as a “cold-blooded and disgusting murder” by the country’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

“Such atrocities have no place in our faith or in our country,” Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Monday. “We condemn such acts.”

On Saturday, Punjab Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Raja Basharat claimed that the provincial government was keeping a close eye on the situation in Sialkot and would respond accordingly.

The Punjab police, he claimed, had apprehended almost all of the suspects involved in the lynching of the Sri Lankan national, who had been charged under sections 302, 297, 201, 427, 431, 147, 149 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATC).
According to a Bol News story on Saturday, sources confirmed that an initial inquiry report into the lynching incident, which had been finalized by Punjab Law Minister Basharat, had been delivered to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.
