Shahbaz Sharif accuses PM Imran Khan of ‘attacking’ ECP

Prime Minster Imran Khan is inciting federal ministers to “frontally attack” the election commission, according to Shahbaz Sharif, leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly. Prime Minister Imran Khan has denied the allegations.

The premier is said to have asked his ministers to support Fawad Chaudhry, the minister for information, as well as Azam Swati, the minister for railways, who have both been sent notices by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after making serious claims against the constitutional body.

According to the PML-N president, Imran Khan’s recommendation to his ministers to’support’ two of their cabinet colleagues is a provocation to launch a frontal attack on the Election Commission.

“He is focusing on ECP at a time when the organisation is facing enormous internal and external problems. He must not be allowed to use his power to browbeat our institutions “Shahbaz went on to say more.

According to sources, the prime minister told federal ministers in a cabinet meeting yesterday that they should back Chaudhry and Swati and that they should accompany the federal ministers to the election commission when they are summoned by the body.
