The government has spent Rs. 10.5 billion on free treatment for 423,525 patients in the province. Private hospitals receive 78 percent of the amount and public health institutions receive 22 percent. Private hospitals earned Rs. 8 billion, compared to the Rs. 2 billion public health facilities earned from free treatment for patients under the Sehat Sahulat Program (SSP) over the past five years.
25 percent of the funds obtained will use to improve services and maintenance of facilities. 20 percent for consumables and 30 percent for doctors, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, pathologists. Also radiologists and medical personnel involved in the examination and treatment. 15 percent is for paramedics and nurses and 10 percent is for administrative costs.
In 2019, the state cabinet issued a formula for withholding and borrowing funds to distribute to public hospitals. It has designed to provide some staff in a public hospital so that, as a private facility, they can visit patients and increase their income.
The Sehat Sahulat Program had launched in 2015 in four districts and covers three percent of the country’s population. It expanded to 51% of the population in 2016, to 69% in 2017 and to the entire province in November 2020. It now includes 7.2 million families in the province. You are entitled to free treatment in about 500 hospitals in the country.
KPK Government took initiative to give good facilities
Attempts to create a competitive environment between public and private hospitals have proved futile. As part of the program, 173 hospitals were included on the panel, including 46 public as well as 127 private health institutions. The choice was made after careful examination by experts.
Government also provides the buildings, pays for and covers the costs of hospital care in addition to paying the electricity and gas bills, while private hospitals only pay their staff if it benefits patients. It also will ensure that the hospital provides a good environment for patients. Moreover, the government provides about 70 billion rupees to the health sector every year in the annual budget. 12 billion rupees will go to the SSP this year, which will increase to 20 billion rupees in the next fiscal year.
