Netflix launched The Crown season 5 this month. The show’s spectacular plotline covers the royal family’s mid-1990s occurrences.
Elizabeth Debicki’s portrayal of Princess Diana in the latest royal drama has been praised. Debicki said she prepared more for this part than any other.
“I thought, ‘Well, I did my best.'” Australian actress: “We’ll see.” The Tenet actress played Princess Diana when her marriage to then-Prince Charles deteriorated.
The Crowns season 5 recreates Diana’s 1995 BBC Panorama interview with Martin Bashir.
Debicki said viewers have responded well to the Bashir episodes, which show his manipulations and a paranoid Diana who feels she must perform the interview.
“The character’s path to that chair is so psychologically complex… When she discovered what the inquiry revealed and read how Peter Morgan wrote it, she felt it would be tough but vital to convey the story.
Diana famously quipped, “There were three of us in this marriage, so it was crowded,” referring to Camilla Parker Bowles.
Season 5 gives both women empathy. Olivia Williams wants viewers to appreciate Parker Bowles’ decency.
She was a victim of circumstance… She left her childhood home. Charles wasn’t her husband. She felt unsafe. “Every picture of her was taken by a man hiding in a bush illegally, trespassing on her property,” said Williams.
