After nasty insults against footballers after a defeat of the euro 2020 in England, Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen has urged moguls in social media to wipe racism from their platform.
While Piers Morgan and Giovanna Fletcher on Monday morning requested the abuse, numerous fans decided to flood the public pages of each player with love to drown out hatred.
On Monday, he posted ‘Hey Mark Zuckerberg & @jack Dorsey’ on Twitter. The racist assaults on these Black athletes are spreading on Facebook and Twitter.
Twitter issued a statement denouncing racism in reaction to the abuse and said it has deleted a number of accounts from the network.
A statement reads: ‘The horrific racist misuse of England last night has no place on Twitter. In the previous 24 hours, we have quickly deleted more than 1000 tweets and permanently suspended accounts for breaking our rules, most of which we proactively have identified using the technology, using a combination of machine learning-based automation and human examination.
Facebook also claimed it deleted remarks and accounts and took action against individuals who violated the rules of the platform.
One spokesman said: ‘No one should encounter anyplace racial harassment, and on Instagram, we don’t want it. Last night at England footballers we swiftly deleted comments and accounts directing abuse and continued to take action against individuals who violated our rules.
