Malik Amin Aslam, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change, announced on Sunday that the Ministry of Climate Change has allocated Rs1.5 billion to the introduction of electric vehicles in the country as part of the Green Stimulus initiative. Aslam is the first Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change.
SAPM stated in an interview with a state-run news agency that there was a need to accelerate the introduction of electric vehicles in the country in order to reap the benefits of the country’s first-ever Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, which was launched in 2015.

According to him, electric buses would be introduced on the Mass Transit Metro Bus routes as well as on a specific route in the federal capital that would run from the Islamabad Zoo to Monal as part of the Green Stimulus initiative.
“It will contribute to the provision of safe, economical, and emissions-free transportation for citizens, as well as encouraging the general public to use electric vehicles,” he continued.
The SAPM also stated that he had spoken out against the proposed taxes on electric vehicles (EVs) during federal cabinet sessions and that he would continue to campaign for low tariffs to be put on the environmentally friendly project.
