Queen Elizabeth II loved Prince Philip at first sight. Royal writer Jennifer Newton discusses Her Majesty’s first meeting with the Duke of Edinburgh.
“Queen Elizabeth first saw Prince Philip at her uncle’s 1934 wedding to Princess Marina of Greece. Marina was 8 when Prince Philip of Greece was 13 and “writing.”
Marion Crawford (Crawfie) said the Queen “never took her eyes off him.” Elizabeth, 17, told her nanny Philip was “the one.”
During a summer at Balmoral, Philip confessed his love to the Queen. Philip noted in his proposal letter, “I don’t deserve all the good that’s happened to me.”
“To have been spared in the war and triumphed, to have been given the opportunity to recover and readjust, to have fallen completely and unconditionally in love,” he said.
