Queen Elizabeth II will become first Royal to reign for 70 years

Queen Elizabeth II will become first British Royal to reign for 70 years on Sunday. Her Platinum Jubliee’s festivities will begin but she has mostly withdrawn from public view.

The 95 years old queen customarily marks the anniversary of the death of her father in quiet, so there will be minimal celebration this weekend.

She travelled to Kenya to see animals in a distant section of the country at the age of 25 with her husband Prince Philip. That was the beginning of her record-breaking tenure as head of state.

A constant in an age of fast social and political change, she has become a symbol of modern Britain. She is also a link to the country’s post-war and imperial history despite her age.

The Queen travelled by helicopter to her enormous Sandringham estate, where she lives with her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.

She had planned to spend Christmas and New Year’s Eve at Sandringham House with her family. However, the visit had to postponed because to an increase of Omicron cases.
