The Punjab government has reportedly extended summer holidays by one month for all public and private schools.
Instead of ending on March 31, the current academic year will conclude on May 31. The new academic year runs from August 1 to March 31, 2023. Summer vacation will be extended to two months from June 1 to July 31, 2022.
The provincial government has also agreed to change school and college schedules starting March due to the longer summer days.
The School Education Department (SED) has requested that all DEAs keep school hours from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Due to the shorter days, the education administration has previously changed all school and college schedules to 8:45 am to 2:45 pm.
A second shift will be introduced in 4,000 public schools across Punjab to educate nearly five million out-of-school children.
The department has estimated the cost of modernising schools at Rs. 3 billion. The project will begin next year.
