Awais Qadir Shah, Sindh transport minister, stated on Monday that the federal government was rushing to inaugurate the “incomplete” Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Karachi, which he described as “incomplete.”
The transport minister issued a statement in which he criticized the PTI administration for claiming credit for the Green Line BRT project, which was actually launched under the PML-time N’s as prime minister in 2016. “It was Nawaz Sharif, not Imran Khan, who initiated the Green Line BRT project,” he asserted.
He went on to say that Karachi’s first BRT project is still in the early stages of construction, but that the PTI-led federal government seemed to be in a hurry to inaugurate the “incomplete project, similar to the Peshawar BRT.”
Following the arrival of 40 buses for the Green Line BRT project, the Sindh government today announced intentions to bring an additional 50 buses to Karachi as part of a provincially-funded transportation initiative, according to the media.
Although the statement was made during the assembly session, it was made by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla in response to a question from Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Shaikh during the session. Adil Shaikh stated that the chief minister and the minister of transportation have frequently stated that buses will be sent to Karachi, but that their promises have gone unfulfilled.
Alternatively, it is appropriate to highlight that the first consignment of 40 buses for the Green Line bus rapid transit system (BRTS) arrived in the city on Sunday, which is a significant milestone.
