PTA asks Telecom for 3G and 4G Spectrum for 10 years

The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has done ask Pakistan’s telecom spectrum if they need more space on the radio frequency spectrum to support 3G and 4G services. Sources say that in response to the AAC’s suggestion. PTA has been asking operators what they want from a 10-year spectrum auction.

Insiders at the PTA said that the agency still has 15 MHz of unused frequency space in the 2100 MHz band that it plans to auction off in 5-MHz chunks. Before the auction, the operators must formally tell the authority how much spectrum they need. This is because the authority is trying to figure out how much demand there is in the market.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) is expected to issue a policy directive for the auction of 3G/4G additional spectrum after receiving the necessary data from telecom operators and figuring out the price of the spectrum with the PTA for the next 10 years.

Also, Telenor has shown interest in buying 5 MHz of spectrum in the 2100 MHz band for a period of seven years, according to our sources. However, the AAC agreed on August 3, 2022. Auction off more spectrum in the 2100 MHz band for a period of ten years.

The 10-year Telecom spectrum auction will set its own prices, unlike the 15-year PTA licensing system. The MoITT and the Authority will make suggestions for the new spectrum price’s cost of the previous spectrum auction.
