Prince Harry believes ‘Megxit’ represents media hatred

Prince Harry called the term “Megxit” a sexist term used by the British press to describe his and Meghan’s choice to leave their royal duties.

On a panel dubbed “The Internet Lie Machine,” Harry was videotaped by the US tech and entertainment magazine “Wired.”

He claimed it exemplified online and media hate.

A troll developed the name Megxit, royal correspondents promoted it and it grew into mainstream media. Harry: “But it started with one.” He didn’t explain.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated to California last year to be more independent. Harry has stated that the British tabloid media’s treatment of Meghan, whose mother is black and father white, was a factor in their decision to leave.

In an October report, social media analytics firm Bot Sentinel identified 83 Twitter accounts responsible for 70% of the hostile comments directed towards Meghan and Harry.

“Perhaps the most upsetting part of this was the number of British journalists who were connecting with them and spreading the lies,” Harry remarked on Tuesday. But they repeat the lies as fact.”

Their recent campaigns against social media negativity have centred on mental health.

“Global humanitarian disaster,” Harry said on Tuesday.

Princess Diana died in a vehicle crash in Paris while being pursued by paparazzi, Harry added.

“It’s a familiar narrative. “I lost my mother to self-made rabidity, and I’m determined not to lose the mother of my children to it.” —Reuters
