The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of Scotland has asked the Duke of York Prince Andrew to resign his membership. He was an honorary royal member from 1992 and also served as the club’s captain.
An official said, “the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews has informed of Prince Andrew’s intention to resign from his honorary membership. We respect and value his decision. There was a brief announcement on Friday morning to members of the club, which has patronised by the Queen.”
He has participated in high-profile competitions, notably against former US President Bill Clinton. He has visited big golf tournaments, sometimes with rows over the cost of the excursions.
Earlier this month, it has announced that Prince Andrew will appear in civil court as an individual and not use the title of HRH. His all Royal patronages and military titles have stripped from Prince Andrew while he is suing in a civil sexual assault action. Attorneys for Virginia Giuffre indicated last week that he has prepared to face a jury trial there.
Buckingham Palace has previously said that the Prince will refrain from performing any official obligations in the future. The Colonel of the Grenadier Guards title was among the royal patronages.
