On Wednesday, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah announced that police personnel who used violence against participants at the Aurat March in Islamabad have been suspended.
In a tweet, he stated that the individuals who mistreated the women at the march are also being identified and that strict legal action will be taken against those who forcefully pushed the women.
Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman criticized the incident, noting that it should not have taken place on March 8, International Day for Women. She also called for an investigation into the matter, stating that the Islamabad police had no justification for baton-charging a peaceful procession.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan condemned the Islamabad police’s reported use of force against the women at the march. Subsequently, the Islamabad police issued an apology, stating that the Islamabad IG had instructed the DIG to take action against those involved.
