In response to the “disunity” among the Pakistan People’s Party (PTI) leaders, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday instructed them to support federal ministers Azam Swati and Fawad Chaudhry amid a dispute with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), according to Geo News.
According to sources with knowledge of the situation, the Prime Minister expressed dissatisfaction with his Cabinet ministers and the PTI leadership during a meeting of the PTI Core Committee held a day earlier to discuss the ongoing political situation in the country following protests by the proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) movement (TLP).
He expressed his dissatisfaction with the members, saying, “you people don’t stand united on any issue.” According to the sources, the prime minister instructed them all to “use the same language” when discussing national and political concerns.
According to insiders, Prime Minister Imran Khan used the example of MQM-P legislators, who, according to him, always had each other’s backs when things became tough. His remarks to the party’s leaders were alleged to have included the following: “When I was an MNA, the MQM lawmakers used to talk the same language.”
It was evident that there was confusion among the federal ministers during the TLP crisis, when they issued contradicting remarks in relation to the negotiations with the outlawed organisation.
The PTI Core Committee also raised worry about notices issued by the ECP, stating that they were unreasonable and should be withdrawn as soon as they were issued.
According to the sources, the premier also asked Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar to expedite the approval of the draught local bodies election ordinance by the Cabinet.
While the members were debating the agreement they had made with the prohibited organisation, the Prime Minister intervened and prevented them from discussing the arrangement in public.
