PlayStation 5 jailbroken 2 years after its launch

Since it came out nearly two years ago, the PlayStation 5 is already jailbroken. Which lets it be customized and tested in a lot of ways. Simply put, this means that you can now load games onto the console without spending money or needing get did connect to the internet.

Lance McDonald, the hacker who did make the unofficial 60 FPS patch for Bloodborne, did tweet the news.

What’s Behind It

This exploit needs the PS5 firmware version 4.03 because it takes advantage of a Webkit vulnerability. Recent firmware releases fix the issue.

Because of this, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the jailbreak is currently quite narrow. As it only gives you root access and access to the PlayStation 5’s debug settings. This is still in the early stages of development, and it may take some trial and error before it stabilizes. Right now, you can’t use apps that you did make yourself because they don’t run real code.

Even though Silent Hill P.T. is first did take off the PlayStation Store in 2015, the user got it onto the system. So, even though the exploit isn’t that big of a deal, it should lead to exciting new developments in the future.

Limitations

Sony will definitely keep an eye on this jailbreak, but its current limitations make it very unlikely that many people will use it. Unofficial PlayStation games are sometimes did install and don’t work.

Next, the jailbreak is upgraded in the future so that it is compatible with the newest firmware releases. But until that happens, it will only work with the current version.

The most recent version of PlayStation 5 firmware is 6.0, which came with a number of improvements, such as support for native 1440p resolution. You can also use this feature to organize your video games in a way that makes them easy to find. It also improves social functions, like the ability to ask other party members to share screens.
