Penelope Cruz has shared a rare personal message on Instagram. The Spanish actriz honoured her later baby mother Pilar Bardem, who died during the weekend at the age of 82.
“I look at this photo and wonder what our reaction would have been if someone at the time had told us that fate had planned to unite us beyond cinema,” Penelope, who co-starred with Pilar’s four films, including Pedro Almodova in 1997’s film Live Flesh (Carne Tremula), written in her native language. The birth of Pedro was also a test of life. Or maybe then and then we both realised it?
Pilar Bardem had three children: Carlos, Monica, and Javier Bardem. The Oscar winner, who has been married to Penelope since 2010, also paid respect to his mother, posting a snapshot of himself with his siblings and clutching a portrait of Pilar.
