Parag Agrawal new Twitter CEO

Parag Agrawal, the new Twitter CEO, is causing a stir in India, where many are ecstatic about his selection. The 37-year-old succeeded Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, who stepped down on Monday.

Mr Agrawal joined Twitter in 2011 and quickly progressed to CTO. He’s a safe set of hands with a big job ahead of him. His hiring has sparked joy in India, where the platform has over 30 million users.

Many on Twitter congratulated him on being the youngest CEO of an S&P 500 company. On the long list of Indian CEOs of global technology companies.

Mr Dorsey said on Twitter on Monday: “Parag has been instrumental in turning around this company. And he’s self-aware and humble. My faith in him as CEO runs deep.”

Agrawal tweeted shortly after the announcement that he was “excited for the future”.

“Jack, thanks. That makes me happy. Merci pour votre mentorship et votre friendship “he said “I joined this company when it had less than 1,000 people. Those days, while a decade ago, seem like yesterday.”

In computer science, Mr. Agrawal earned a PhD from Stanford University. Prior to Twitter, he held research positions at Microsoft, Yahoo, and AT&T.

Twitter stated he led efforts to “increase development pace while expanding the status of machine learning across the enterprise” as CTO.

Mr Agrawal has gone from relative obscurity to a significant public figure overnight, and every step he takes now will be attentively observed.

Some claim he is left-leaning, citing a 2010 tweet including a Daily Show remark, while others call him racist. Mr Agrawal has yet to make a formal remark.

His entry as CEO of Twitter comes amid a spat between the social media firm and the Indian government over free speech and fake news.
