Foreign Minister Shah Mehmud Qureshi hopes Pakistan will be removed from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) gray list soon.
“We proceed according to our national needs, not at the behest of others. The steps our government is taking against money laundering and terrorist financing are our national need. “
He said Pakistan was graylisted by the FATF during PML-N’s tenure and the PTI government had taken steps to remove it from the list over the past two and a half years.
Mr Qureshi spoke to the media here on Sunday at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
“We brought the subject of uranium export to a group in India. Had the incident happened in Pakistan, Indian media would have caused a storm, but our media has not dealt with this issue effectively. I urge the Pakistani media to highlight this issue as much as possible and express the feelings of the government and people of Pakistan. “
After the withdrawal of US troops, violence and civil war in Afghanistan is likely to increase, the minister said that Pakistan will suffer the most from the civil war in neighboring countries.
“We don’t want a new wave of civil war to come to us. Pakistan currently hosts three million Afghan refugees and refuses to accept any more refugees. We want the return of refugees to be part of the Afghan peace process. “
When asked about security at Kabul airport after US troops withdrew, the foreign minister said Turkey was a coalition partner and had been asked to oversee airport security.
Regarding the recent Lahore explosions, he said progress had been made in investigating the attack but gave no further details.
Regarding the Multan development project, including the secretariat and the officers’ apartments, he said the offer had been printed in the newspapers.
Regarding the powers of the seconded secretary to South Punjab, Qureshi said five meetings were held to change business rules.
“We want a fully empowered secretariat, not an office,” he added.
