Pakistan will receive large shipments of COVID-19 vaccines from China and under the COVAX program during the current month in an attempt to boost its vaccination process.
According to sources, the country will receive 15 million doses of various COVID vaccines during the current month.
“Two million doses of COVID vaccine will arrive at Islamabad airport today,” they said, adding that Pakistan had purchased those doses of Sinovac from a Chinese company.
They even said Pakistan had already received 6.5 million doses of COVID vaccine this month. “They included two million doses of Sinopharm and Sinovac,” the sources said, adding that Pakistan also received 2.5 million doses of Moderna in the COVAX program.
The sources also said that 100,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine purchased by Pakistan will also arrive in Islamabad in July, while the country will also receive a shipment of the Astra Zeneca vaccine under Covax.
“The country will also receive raw material for China’s Cansino vaccine, which is currently being manufactured in Islamabad,” they said.
Earlier in the day, Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar said “more than half a million doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered in Pakistan in a single day”.
