Pakistan rank low in list of countries with most tests

As Covid-19 cases continue to decreasing in Pakistan, a site that gave Pakistan rank low that is 29th on the list of the 30 countries, that have performed the most tests per million population (PMP).

The National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) has now registered 1,050 patients infected with the virus and 41 deaths in the past 24 hours.

Pakistan will also host the first international conference on the Covid-19 vaccine, where the main vaccine researchers will share their research.

In another study, five departments of the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) were closed. It was found that 13 employees had contracted the virus in the past week. Five cases reported in one day.

According to the website www.worldometers.info, which stores global data, “Pakistan has performed 39,136 tests per million people. Indonesia being the only country that has done fewer tests – 38,135 PMP tests, India and Pakistan rank low in the list”.

In terms of the highest number of tests per million people, Israel ranks first with 1,273,050 tests, followed by the UK, which has 1,266,538 tests, and the United States in third place with 1,052,930 tests per million people.

Compared to Pakistan, India performed about four times as many tests – 152,821 tests for PMP, Turkey conducted 381,953 tests; Iran, 124,687 and Iraq, 162,756 tests.

Likewise, the UAE, ranked 49th in terms of the number of cases, ran 2,978,906 tests and Denmark ran 2,784,399 PMP tests, despite being 58th.

Pakistan conducted a total of 8.7 million tests last year.

The United States has done most of the testing, that is. At more than 349 million, India ranks second with more than 212 million tests, while Russia ranks third with more than 109 million tests.

NCOC data shows 1,050 people were infected and 41 people lost their lives in one day.

Up to 250 ventilators are in use across the country, while 2,069 patients were admitted to the hospital on Tuesday.

On the other hand, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Prof. Dr. Javed Akram, announced that the university will start a clinical trial of the vaccine. From Chinese company Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biologic Pharmacy Co. next week.

Previously, the university conducted a clinical trial of a vaccine from another Chinese company, Cansino, which involved about 18,000 volunteers. The vaccine is then registered with the Pakistan Drug Regulatory Authority.

“Around 7,000 volunteers will participate in Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biologic Pharmacy Co’s vaccine trial. Moreover, UHS will host the first international conference dedicated to Covid-19 vaccine on March 12 and 13. In which principal investigating officers will share their research/working papers” said Dr. Akram.

Five PMC departments are sealed

After discovering 13 cases of Covid-19 in one week and five in one day, the district government closed five PMC departments with further assignments.

The departments that were sealed were Computer IT, Verification Cell, Legal Department, Licensing Department, and Administration Department.

PMC’s press coordinator Sarmad Hassan said the station had closed according to instructions from the health ministry.

However other departments will remain open because the PMC cannot afford to completely shut down the building. Students and medical professionals frequently visit it and we constantly disinfect the building,” he said.
