Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced it will start cargo flights to Saudi Arabia

To increase exports to the country, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced it will start cargo flights to Saudi Arabia.

Abdullah Hafeez, spokesman for the national airline, said

“Fruits, vegetables and meat were exported to the kingdom and sending these products by air would save time.”

He added that “The airline had decided to operate cargo flights to Saudi Arabia as exports from Pakistan were likely to be affected by the ban on international passenger flights via Riyadh.”


Hafeez said that “As per instructions from PIA CEO Arshad Malik, the fare for this cargo flight would be kept at a very affordable and attractive price, adding that the first flight with a load of 42 tonnes departed for Jeddah on Tuesday.”

Meanwhile, national airlines have started cargo flights to China.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia has previously issued a circular to all airlines operating in the Kingdom to suspend international flights for a week due to the spread of the new coronavirus strain.

Upon receiving the circular, PIA immediately stopped its flights to the Kingdom and announced that those affected would be compensated once the suspension was lifted.

After receiving the circular, PIA immediately stopped its planned flights on Monday.
