Pakistan denies ‘false claims’ of repression of foreign dissidents

On Tuesday, Speaker Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri firmly refuted unfounded media allegations suggesting that Pakistan had cracked down on U.S. dissidents, adding that the country has the rights to its national life in all parts of the world, guaranteed by parliamentary democracy.

A report in The Guardian stated that the United Kingdom authorities “were admonished to target” the expatriate Pakistanis who had been critical of the security apparatus in the nation.

‘Pakistan, a major UK friend, might be willing to target people on British territory,’ claimed the article.

In answer to media questions on the unfounded charges, the FO spokesman stated today: “Any native of any country, including even Pakistani nationals who live in any country under any pretence is under no threat.”

The FO spokesman stated that these claims were baseless and seemed to be part of a continuing rather obvious attempt to mislead Pakistan and its official institutions.
