Prime Minister Imran Khan will officially open Pakistan’s first cardiac stent manufacturing plant at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) today.

This makes Pakistan the 18th country in the world to manufacture heart stents locally. Pakistan will also become the second Muslim state after Turkey and the second South Asian country to produce heart stents after India.

According to Federal Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry, the heart stents developed at NUST meet European standards and will save rupees in Pakistan. 8 billion in its annual import account.

He added that local manufacturing will lower the prices of cardiac stents in Pakistan, ultimately benefiting heart patients.

Earlier this year, in March, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) authorized NUST to set up a cardiac stent manufacturing plant.

In addition, a 200-acre medical equipment manufacturing zone will be established in the industrial zone of Faisalabad, where essential medical equipment including stents, cannulas, syringes, needles, X-rays and medical equipment will be used. dialysis will be developed, saving Pakistan money. $ 1.4 billion on its import bill.

Another medical device manufacturing site will be established in Sialkot, increasing the district’s current annual exports from $ 400 million to $ 2 billion in just two years.
