British actor and musician Riz Ahmed is the first Muslim to be nominated for a Best Oscar for his role in Sound of Metal.
Ahmed of Pakistani descent plays a rock drummer who has lost his hearing.

“When you hear your own name, it’s a strange feeling. I just said thank you in a low voice and I feel a little grateful,” the 38-year-old said after his candidacy.
“Everyone in this film is doing it because they want to go further and further than before. We are all trying to see how far we can go.”
Ahmed won an Emmy for winning the Best Actor Award in a Limited Series or Film for The Night Of in 2017.
