According to the education minister, the meeting will decide what to do next and will be attended by all education ministers in the provinces.

The alarming rise in coronavirus cases across the country, the federal minister said the situation was not the same as it was in November and December. The incidence of cases increased within a week, he added.

Last month, the Federal Minister announced that all educational institutions will resume regular 5-day classes starting March 1.

He said that the message applies to any educational institution in the designated cities where restrictions have been imposed.

The coronavirus positive rate rose significantly in the first week of March, ringing warning bells at the NCOC, which announced on Monday that it would reconsider its decision to ease further restrictions.

The NCOC meeting, chaired by the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, also considered postponing the opening of cinemas, indoor weddings and restaurants.

The meeting expressed concern about public self-satisfaction with subsequent non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI or alternative treatments for diseases other than medical treatment).
