Navjot Singh Sidhu, Congress Leader, was named Chairman of the Punjab Party Unit before next year’s Parliamentary Assembly elections.
After many months of struggle in the state unit, Navjot Singh Sidhu was appointed as the previous cricket began and over numerous questions he publicly revolted against the administration of capitan Amarindern Singh.
In addition to Sidhu, temporary president of the Congress, Mr. Sonia Gandhi also nominated as working chairs of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Sangat Singh Gilzian, Sukhwinder Singh Danny, Pawan Goel and Kuljit Singh Nagra.
The decision was reached following discussions with Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sindhu amongst Congress High Command.
The Interim Chair Sonia Gandhi, Amarinder Singh, told Congress on Friday expressing concern at the potential appointment, sources said, of the leader of Navjot Singh Sidhu as the chairman of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC).
Punjab General Secretary Harish Rawat visited Captain Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister of Punjab, on 17 July at Mohali. He added afterwards that Amarinder Singh promised him he would respect whatever decision of the High Command Party.
Rawat emphasised nevertheless that Amarinder Singh is still chief minister for the next parliamentary elections, given that his administration has received love from the nation’s people, and also “Punjabis does not want to experience their leadership.” Rawat met with Sonia Gandhi on Friday and presented his report on the Punjab Congress’ suggested reforms. During the meeting, Sidhu was also there. Also Sonia Gandhi was met last week by Amarinder Singh.
