Babar Khan Ghauri, the head of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), was turned over to the police in Karachi on Tuesday after being placed on seven days of physical remand by an anti-terrorism court (ATC).
Babar Khan Ghauri was taken into custody by the police on Monday evening just minutes after he arrived back in Karachi from the United States, where he had spent the previous seven years living in self-imposed exile.
Babar Khan Ghauri, a former federal minister and the head of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), was brought before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday amidst stringent security arrangements .
During today’s hearing in court, the police notified the judge that a former federal minister was taken into custody in connection with a terrorism case that was initially filed in 2015.

Ghauri refuted the accusations that Saulat Mirza had made against him. Additionally, he pleaded with the judge to direct the police to provide him the medications that he needed.
In response to this, the ATC issued an order for the police to provide the MQM leader with medical services.
After that, the ATC turned Babar Ghauri over to the police for a seven-day remand in physical custody, and it postponed any further proceedings until July 12.
