Mohsin Baig case: IHC issues notice of contempt to FIA director

Following petitions requesting the discharge of cases against journalists Mohsin Baig, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued a contempt of court notice to Babar Bakht, Director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cybercrime Wing, for his failure to appear in court.

Baig’s wife was represented in court by Sardar Lateef Khosa, and the state was represented by Advocate General Niazullah Niazi.

At one point during the hearing, Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Athar Minallah stated that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had abused its authority.

“Why shouldn’t we file a contempt of court case against the FIA?” asked the chief justice (CJ) of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). Does it appear to them that they are above the law?”

When Justice Minallah inquired as to why only Mohsin Baig was arrested, he was told that there were four people in the program. Is it possible that the suspect has published the footage himself? the court inquired.
