Indian PM Narendra Modi will hold a face to face meeting with senior political Kashmiri leaders. It is his first meeting of its kind since suspension of regional autonomy in 2019, which detained thousands of people. The Kashmiri’s alliance leader hope for the restoration of IIOJK status before August 2019.
India’s removal from the region’s state and semi-autonomous status in 2019 sparked strong local opposition. Jammu and Kashmir has fully claimed by India and Pakistan, although they only control part of it.
India has said it is trying to speed up construction and infrastructure projects and strengthen governance at the village level. Despite the fact it is taking strict security measures in the occupied valley to house freedom fighters.
India’s Ministry of Justice is also working to reorganize several parliamentary assemblies and constituents at IIOJK to hold elections in the area. But despite the renewed dialogue efforts, the people of the valley have expressed distrust of New Delhi’s intentions.
A Kashmiri student said that I have not much hope for the meeting of Modi and Kashmiri leaders because you won’t undo what you did before.
Moreover, to prevent protests against his 2019 move, India closed the occupied valley. Also imposed strict traffic and telecommunications restrictions, and cut off most cell phones and internet connections for many weeks. But 18 months later high-speed mobile internet had partially restored only.
