Star footballer Lionel Messi will leave FC Barcelona

Star footballer Lionel Messi will leave Barcelona despite the fact that both parties have agreed a new contract. FCB cited economic and structural issues to his contract renewal.

“Although Lionel Messi and Barcelona have reached an agreement and both parties have a clear intention to sign a new contract today. But this could not happen due to financial and structural constraints,” Barca said in a statement.

“Due to this situation, Messi will not stay at FCB. We regret that the wishes of the player and the club will not fulfil. FC Barcelona thanks the player from the core of their hearts for his contribution to the club’s expansion. Also wishes him all the best for his professional and personal future,” Barca added.

Messi tried to leave Barcelona in August last year and made a formal request after breaking up with President. But his successor led the Argentine’s revival and persuaded him to stay.

Messi joined Barca’s youth team at the age of 13. He is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer with 672 goals in 778 games in all competitions.
