Lionel Messi has agreed to a two-year contract extension with PSG

Lionel Messi struck an arrangement with Paris Saint Germain on Tuesday when, according to ESPN Argentina, FC Barcelona made the last great attempt to maintain the soccer star that will be leaving the Spain club after 21 years.

On Sunday, the French daily L’Equipe announced that Argentina is in discussions with football giants in Paris St Germain and in the following 24 hours it would fly to French capital. On Tuesday, on its website, the French daily claimed that Messi should be in Paris in the next few hours to finalize his move.

In order to finalise this move, Lionel Messi signed with Paris Saint-Germain for two years and is expected to fly in France. This agreement contains a one-year option, which allows a net salary of €35 million (£29.6 million) to be paid, with incentives included.

The President of Barcelona Joan Laporte had proposed to Messi a new contract, and, according to sources, he considered his choices for six times Ballon D’or (Golden Ball) winner. It seems, however, that Messi has decided to go to the French capital.

The authenticity of the claim was questioned by the Spanish media and the Argentine news site Olé. The Spanish media suggested that this revelation was the act of PR of President Laporte, who was under consideration in order to leave the country.

Moreover, according to the papers published on Monday by Reuters, a member of Barcelona filed objections with the French Court and the European Commission in order to stop Lionel Messi’s possible move to Paris St Germain.

In their accusations, the Barça member claims fan lawyer Juan Branco that French soccer agencies have been unable, in order to assist PSG become a body of European football, to implement the Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.
