LG tests 6G successfully at a very high speed

LG, a Korean electronics company, has successfully tested data transmission at 6G Terahertz (THz). Allowing for data transfers that are incredibly fast. The rollout of 5G is always slow, but that hasn’t stopped IT, giants, from trying out the next generation of mobile network infrastructure.

On September 7, LG did outdoor tests over a distance of 320 meters at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) in Berlin, Germany. LG says that this transmission, which occurs between 155 and 175 GHz, is a big step toward making 6G commercially available in areas with a lot of people.

The company and its partners sent the signal out with a 20 dBm multichannel power amplifier. Got it back with a low-noise amplifier. Which greatly improved the quality of the signal. Chief Technology Officer and EVP at LG Electronics Dr. Kim Byoung-hoon said:

With the success of our most recent demonstration. We’ve made a big step toward getting 6G speeds of 1 terabit (TB) per second in both indoor and outdoor urban areas. We think that 6G will play a key part in the growth of businesses in the future. The introduction of exciting new user experiences, and we do it at the forefront of its development.

6G networks must become 10 times more reliable and 50 times faster at sending and receiving data than 5G networks. For example, the theoretical limit for mmWave 5G is 5 Gbps, but in practice, it can only reach 3 Gbps. So, we can expect the peak speed of a 6G network should become around 150 Gbps.

This new technology could be used for things like optical wireless communication (OWC), autonomous drones (UAVs), and wireless power transfer.

6G probably won’t be out any time soon. Telecom companies plan to standardize the next-generation network technology in 2025 and start selling it in 2029.
